Walkthrough of the course

The race begins on the paved area at the front of Killarney House which will be familiar to many as the finish strait of Killarney House parkrun.

At the end of the paved section we turn left and then curve right.

At the next fork in the path we stay on the left.

The next junction is a very sharp left turn.

There are two paths to the left here and we stick to the outer path (on the right).

At the following junction we turn right.

We now approach Killarney House and the path veers to the left approaching the side of the House.

At this point we turn right parallel with the gable of Killarney House and follow that path.

Very shortly at the next junction we turn left.

We now approach the gates to Killarney House known as the Golden Gates. We turn left to stay on the outer paths of Killarney House.

This leads us to a long straight section passing our start area again and through the cherry blossoms on Cherry drive as we head to the exit of Killarney House.

We exit Killarney House and Gardens and enter the Demense through the Knockreer Gates.

At our first junction in the Demense we stay left and take the Deenagh River path.

At the Queen’s bridge (at the 4-way junction) we will be taking a right turn.

At the next junction continue straight through.

Continue straight at the junction just before Deenagh Lodge.

Exit the Demense via the King’s Bridge. The gates here will be open on the day of the race.

After exiting the Demense you will be at the junction of Port Road, Mission Road and New Street. Continue straight across the junction on to New Street.

Continue straight along New Street.

You will pass the New Street/Beech Road junction. It is useful to consider this as the start of your loop of the town. You will be completing this loop twice. Stay straight and on the left for your two loops.

Turn left at the top of New Street to enter High Street.

Continue straight on High Street.

At the top of High Street we will turn right to the traffic lights.

At the traffic lights we turn left.

Very shortly we meet another set of traffic lights at which we turn left again to enter New Road.

We continue straight on New Road and the water station will be located here on the left.

At the junction of New Road and Port Road we will be turning left.

Continue straight along Port Road.

At the junction of Port Road, Mission Road and New Street we will be turning left to bring us back on to New Street.

Continue again straight on New Street.

At the junction of New Street and Beech Street remain on the left hand side to continue your second loop of the town.

Complete the second loop of the town going up High Street, down New Road and Port Road and back again to New Street. When you approach the New Street/ Beech Road junction for the third time you take the right hand side of the road and turn right into Beech Road.

The race finishes very shortly on Beech Road just before the Discover Ireland offices.

Best wishes to all participants. Don’t forget to collect your t-shirt after the finish and join up for some refreshments in the tourist office afterwards.
